Inter-state Planning
The transmission network for power flow across states is planned at the central level, which can be further categorised as Inter-regional and intra-regional planning.
Inter-regional Planning
The Indian power network is demarcated into five regions (North, East, West, South and North-East). For ease of power flow from one region to another region, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and central transmission utility (CTU) conduct five-year planning for transmission network development for each regional corridor. A snap-shot of such planning by both CEA and CTU has been captured in the graph given below.

Intra-regional Planning
The Indian power network is demarcated into five regions (North, East, West, South and North-East). The power flow takes place within as well as across regions. Central transmission utility (CTU) plans for development of transmission network for each region, which has been shown in the graphs given below.
